The Best Five of O Six

A year of hits and misses, 2006 has showed us that the floodgates are finally beginning to open for online brand experiences. Fortune 500 companies grappled with staying relevant in an age of YouTubes, MySpaces and Flickrs.

Here are 5 champions, according to Armchair Media:

One: It's Comcastic!
With its slick transitions, pioneering audio design and catchy content, the Comcastic website created a superiorly crafted world for visitors to explore.

Two: Getty 10 Ways
Great concepts meet great graphic design in Getty 10 Ways. Someone pinch me!

Three: Leo Burnett
The Leo Burnett site both creates and masters a new paradigm for navigation and way-finding.

Four: IKEA Kom in i Garderoben
IKEA does it again. Swedish webdesign continues to raise the bar with clever concepts and larger-than-life productions.

Five: Adidas Originals

Adidas Original's art direction is slick and the camera angles are beautifully styled to include useful 360º views of all products.

Other sites the Armchairs enjoyed:

Popurls
It took several generations for the portal concept to really work, Popurls exemplifies the best of the most by providing the most recent crust of content from popular web content sources like Digg, delicious, Flickr, YouTube and more. It's the closest thing to seeing what's new on the web from a single page.

Makezine
Making things yourself can be both fun and rewarding. Make is a print periodical for DIYers with tips on technologies, methods and step-by-step instructions. Build your own wind generator! Take apart a scanner so you can re-use it's parts! The Make blog is a fun daily roundup, even for those without breadboards and needle nosed pliers.

Core77
Industrial design, especially at the student project level can be facinating, Core77 rounds up the most interesting projects for your daily consumption.

Newsvine puts consumers in control of the news.

Netvibes demonstrates of how powerful and simple AJAX can be in a news and information site.

Harley Davidson and VW are solid examples of campaign integration.

Reiss shows beautiful photography as well as innovative gallery interface design.

Trevor Jackson and Johan Prag are bold and beautiful sites with hot design work.
