'Unbox' Unbig

Amazon has finally launched its entry into the increasingly crowded field of video players with movie/tv show downloads. TV episode prices are comparable to iTunes. Movie prices are comparable to what you would pay for the DVD if you bought it on Amazon. This, of course, keeps the studios happy since it doesn't undercut DVD revenues. It will be interesting to see how Apple prices its movies when they launch their service later this month.

At first glance, the player feels a bit 'tiny' for what it is. The previews appear in a small window compared to other video services you're used to. This is primarily because they shove it into the Amazon page template. On the plus side, the previews are nice and long, clocking in at around 2:30. My 2 cents: Just because it's from Amazon doesn't mean you have to stick with the standard Amazon wrapper. Tailor the service to the experience.

Toss your box.
